Biography

Greetings!  I currently serve El Camino High School as an English teacher and the Director of Activities.  I feel fortunate to be teaching in the community in which I grew up.  As an El Camino alumnus ('91), I strive to make our high school an active part of our community and assist in the building of every students' educational foundation.

While attending San Francisco State University ('95), I prepared for my teaching career my coaching track field.  I graduated with B.A. degrees in English Literature and Creative Writing.  I did my student teaching at El Camino during the fall of 1996 and was fortunately hired as a mid-year replacement in January of 1997.  During that first year I continued to coach track and cross country and served as the class advisor for the class of 1997.  This experience, along with serving as class president my junior and senior of high school, nurtured my love for co-curricular activities.  The next school year, I was hired to be the activities director in addition to English.

This job suits me perfectly, because I am passionate about English and Activities.  I have personally experienced and witnessed the power of these disciplines.  My 9th grade teacher, Ms. Roberts from my first high school, helped me find my own identity through Shakespeare and poetry.  Without her guidance, I may have remained a troubled teenager still looking for help and direction in life.  Mr. Robert Maldonado, my leadership teacher at El Camino, provided me with the opportunity to reach out to others, preached the importance of how an activities program can affect a school culture, and mentored me by being one of my many role models.  I continue to progress in my career thanks to such a wonderful staff here at El Camino and the constant willingness and feedback of my students.
