Senior End-of-the-Year Athletic Awards

A meeting of all head coaches is held to nominate and select the most qualified student-athletes both male and female for the following awards: El Camino Blanket, Outstanding Graduating Senior, Scholar Athlete, and Most Inspirational Athlete.  The recipients of each award will be announced at the Senior Awards Night ceremony.  The recipients will have their names engraved/embroidered on the school’s permanent awards in the foyer/gym area.  Those students who were considered for an award, but not selected as a recipient, will be given a letter of recognition. The Elaine James Award – MOST INSPIRATIONAL FEMALE ATHLETE

The Monte-Schutz Award – MOST INSPIRATIOINAL MALE ATHLETE

            Criteria:  Athletes nominated must be a graduating senior and demonstrate the following:

  • Competitive Determination
  • Consistent Courage in Practice and Games
  • High Degree of Effort in a Winning or Losing Effort
  • Dependability
  • Example to Younger Athletes
  • Contribution to Team Success          

SCHOLAR ATHLETE Perpetual Award

            Criteria:  Athlete must demonstrate the following

  • Recipient must be a senior
  • High Cumulative Grade Point Average (>3.5)
  • Satisfactory Citizenship
  • Qualifier for an athletic Block

OUTSTANDING GRADUATING SENIOR ATHLETE Perpetual Award

            Criteria:  Athlete must demonstrate the following (emphasis on student’s senior year)

  • Participation
  • Achievement
  • Sportsmanship
  • Leadership

BLANKET AWARD:  The Blanket is considered to be our most distinguished award.  All sports are represented and have equal opportunity.

Criteria:  All students nominated must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated the    following for multiple years in multiple sports.  Student-Athlete must have multiple nominations (by their respective coaches) to qualify for this award.

  • High Level of Achievement

- Team MVP (or consideration of the award)

- All County/All League (1st Team, 2nd Team)

  • Overall Athletic Contribution to El Camino and Participation in more than one sport.

- A major contributor/starter at the varsity level for a minimum of 4 seasons

  • Leadership Qualities

- Team Captain, Most Inspirational, etc.

 

  • Competitive and overall positive attitude            
  • Value to the squad
  • Sportsmanship
  • Dependability (Attendance, Eligibility, etc.)
  • Positive Attitude
Athletic Scholarships

Attention Student Athletes don't pass up on an opportunity for a scholarship for college. The deadline for all athletic scholarships is Friday, April 24th 2020. The Athletic Department has four college scholarships to offer.

The first scholarship is the Tenerowicz Scholarship. This scholarship is given to a graduating senior athlete by the Tenerowicz brothers in memory of their brother Jim. The Tenerowicz’s were a family of 4 brothers who attended El Camino from 1966 through 1980, Jim being the Valedictorian of the class of 1970. All four brothers were Captains of the varsity football team, and they all wrestled, and played baseball. All four brothers received the coveted blanket award. All four brothers continued their education at UC Davis while playing intercollegiate athletics.
Each year El Camino High School will award the Tenerowicz Scholarship to a graduating senior. The following criteria must be met:

#1 Student must be college bound

#2 Student maintained a 2.0 GPA for four years.

#3 Student displayed good citizenship for four years.

#4 Student made an athletic contribution for four years.

#5 Student embodies those values the Tenerowicz Brothers displayed: namely, competitiveness, good sportsmanship, hustle, and enthusiasm.

The second scholarship is the Nadeau Scholarship. The criteria to be eligible is as follows:
Doctor Nadeau donated his services for years as an athletic trainer/Doctor for El Camino for many years in the 1970’s though the late 1980’s. He was a kind caring man who donated much of services to El Camino student/athletes a no cost. This scholarship is in honor of Dr. Nadeau and should represent someone who gives back to the program more than they take.
To qualify for a Nadeau Scholarship student/athletes must have the following: a 2.75 G.P.A.; and been on an athletic team at least once a year for three years with two years at the varsity level. Applicants are to submit a one-page (maximum) essay on “What the Nadeau Scholarship Means to Me.

The third scholarship is the Jacobson Family Scholarship. This scholarship is a football scholarship for linemen only---Offensive, Defensive or both. In football most games are won or lost at the line of scrimmage. This scholarship is created to recognize  these seldom mentioned players.

The fourth scholarship is the ECHS Athletic Boosters Scholarship. The El Camino High School Athletic Boosters are proud to offer two (2) $1000.00 scholarships to recognize one male and one female student athlete who have demonstrated dedication and excellence through athletic participation and academic achievement during their high school years at El Camino.
