As we begin the 2015-16 school year, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight what makes El Camino High a great place to learn, work, and to discover one’s full potential.
Our teachers are continuing the work to prepare students for 21st century skills and experiences needed to compete in a rapidly changing global economy. The school is focused on providing students with a relevant and rigorous standards based curriculum that will prepare them for the next step in their education and in obtaining their desired careers. Teachers are working in collaborative teams to refine their curriculum and assessments to demonstrate student proficiency. Staff development time is being used to analyze student achievement progress using common assessments and rubrics. We have a dedicated staff who provide students the support they need both inside and outside the classroom.
In the area of technology, El Camino will be forming a technology/data committee to look at the current status of devices and opportunities. With this information, we will make recommendations for the purchase of needed hardware, programs, and updated infrastructure. We are offering AP Computer Science courses this year and will continue to provide many opportunities for students to experience college-level learning and instruction such as AVID, after-school homework help, in-class enrichment activities, etc.
Career pathways continue to be a vital role in helping students to be college and career ready. Such programs include Culinary Arts, Dance, Multimedia (Video Production & Web Design), Biotech (in partnership with Genentech), as well as Visual and Performing Arts pathways.
We are continuing our proud traditions of academic excellence here at El Camino High School based on the pillars of commitment, trust, and resilience.
I am proud to be a part of the El Camino family and I look forward to working with the staff, students, and community throughout the year.
