ECHS Counseling Department

Mission Statement


The El Camino High School counseling department is staffed by professional school counselors who implement a comprehensive school counseling program designed to meet the academic, personal/social and career developmental needs of all students. The counseling department works to encourage collaboration amongst staff, families and community to ensure that every student has the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success and personal growth. El Camino High School counselors strive to empower students to embrace their full potential and develop the skills necessary to create positive interpersonal relationship.

Vision Statement


The School Counselors at ECHS believe:

  • All students should have equal access to counseling services and resources that are sensitive to their individual needs.
  • All students, from varying backgrounds and beliefs can be successful given adequate support.
  • All students have the right to learn in a safe and respectful environment.
  • All students have access to a full-time, state-certified, master's-degree-level school counselor to deliver the counseling program.

Our comprehensive School Counseling Program should:

  • Recognize the needs of their student population.
  • Incorporate current, ASCA-based, best practices for School Counseling.
  • Use data to drive program development and evaluation.
  • Include cooperative relationship with students, families, school personnel and community resources.

All counselors at ECHS:

  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • Participate in the professional development activities essential to maintain a quality school counseling program.
