Absences

Attention El Camino High School Parents:

If your student will be absent for more than 5 consecutive days, you must notify the Attendance Office in writing at least one week prior.  The Assistant Principal will review the student’s attendance record and determine if the student’s absence will be excused or unexcused based on ECHS’s policy of “More than 10 days of absence in each semester is considered excessive”, as stated in the Student Handbook.

If the absence is excused, the student will need to utilize School Loop to keep up with their studies.  Short-Term Independent Study Contracts may be offered in some cases.  If the absence is unexcused, the teacher may or may not accept work from the student for a grade.  This will be stated in the teacher’s class policy.

If the student is suddenly absent for more than 5 days due to bereavement or with a medical excused note from the doctor, please notify the Attendance Office.  The Counseling Office can request homework from the teachers.
